Bass viol

Three-piece front, probably consisting of a central carved piece and two outer bent staves. The back is of three pieces of maple/sycamore. The neck, head and fingerboard are maple replacements, but the marquetry from the original fingerboard is present together with the original tailpiece. When the marquetry was removed from the original badly warped fingerboard, the bright colours, which would have originally been visible on the upper surface as well, were revealed. The head is a copy of that found on another Barak Norman instrument.
