Bass drum
Bass drum owned by James Blades. Rivetted sheet-metal body painted white and ornamented with applied red diamond appliques. Hinged metal tensioning rim. Tensioning by eight pairs of threaded rods mounted in sliders on body of instrument. Two screw clamps for support. Heads of skin. This rare drum was manufactured by the Barry Drum Manufacturing Company USA and is fully collapsible. The drum shell folds into an eclipse shape, and the skin folds in four (explaining the odd marks/creases on the heads). When folded, the drum slots into a black carrying case (see record 2012.546).
