Drum, double-headed
Double-headed drum, Chinese. Red lacquer rim. Heads decorated with polychrome hand-painted dragon and bird, and fastened with large domed iron nails, with remains of gold paint. The two original suspension rings are missing; later screw eye and ring. Both heads have been repaired with patches of vellum? Inscription: 'MANUFACTURED BY FATSHEN KWANGTUNG CHINA / HAW CHONG CO', Used by James Blades for the original performance (9th June 1966) of 'The Burning Fiery Furnace' by Benjamin Britten.
