Irish harp

Table harp. A painted and gilt Irish table harp, made by Clark of Syracuse. With 26 strings, the wooden frame painted with a design of gilt clover leaves. Board of contrasting wood decorated with painted gilt, green and black Celtic designs, all on paw feet and metal and rubber castors. Inscribed "Clark Irish / Harp Jr. / PATENTED / SYRACUSE, U.S.A. / Lyon A Healy / MAKERS CHICAGO". This harp was bought by Margaret Fay Shaw in the USA, when she was living in New York. She was given money for living costs and essentials by her uncle George, but spent it on this harp [see Shaw, M. F. 'From the Alleghenies to the Hebrides' (Edinburgh: Birlinn, 2008), p36]
