rattle

Musical instrument made of long, cylindrical gourd with bean-shaped iron rattles attached. Three rattles, forming triangle, tied to gourd with twisted skin cord; fourth rattle, placed above, now attached with cotton shoe-lace. Probably originally tied to existing leather thong which is wound round gourd at this point. Further two rattles now missing ?. Rattles terminate in loop at either end to which are attached several metal rings. Strip of patterned cotton cloth wrapped round gourd at midway; acts as carrying strap.
