Guitar lute (?), six-stringed, polished wood, the soundbox pierced with a rosette, the bowl formed of seven ribs each with a thin strip of darker wood at the join and round the edge of the front. Nine metal frets along fingerboard with six further wood frets set into soundbox. Strings of metal and gut (or nylon ?), one missing, tuning pegs with ivory or bone heads. Two mother-of-pearl discs in fingerboard, the strings fastened with bridge pins also with mother-of-pearl inlay, as is the bun foot. The bridge with foliate finials or 'mustache' at each end Incised on front at base R.VIETEN.
