whistle

Miniature double-chambered whistling bottle; oval-profiled chambers and flat base. Both chambers feature on outer face a design panel vertically divided by raised band (over mould seams) with serrated vertical lines. Rear faces are stippled, also with central band. Surmounting front chamber is head of raptorial bird. Spiral marks occur on base of each chamber (made with pebble?). Vertical mould seams across top and underside of lower bridge. Both chambers, spout and bird head incorporated in single two-part mould; bridge added to incorporate modelled whistling mechanism. Smooth areas are well-burnished. Base undersides wiped only. Even black but pale fabric shows through in many places.
