whistle

War-whistle of hard dark wood, oval in section, slightly curved and tapering to one end. Wrapped for ? of its length from the wide end with leather loops connected by a plait down convex and concave sides. Round the small end is a broad band of brass, and just inside the wide end, at the narrowest points of the oval, a few coloured beads. About the centre is an iron ring to which are attached two plaits of leather terminating in giraffe tails. Nearer the broad end is a small strip of hide with dark brown hair, fastened by a wooden toggle. Hide sling for carrying.
