whistle

Double-chambered whistling bottle; tall spout, flat bridge and flat base. Front chamber represents a raptorial bird with folded wings and prominent chest; feet shown in high relief at front; wings and chest in c.1/2cm high relief. Three holes pierced in head, and beak opening cut-out for whistling. Strong vertical mould seams down sides of both chambers and across lower bridge - single mould-set used for both chambers. Head and neck of bird added to incorporate modelled whistling mechanism. Appears as though head, neck and upper bridge made in another mould-set - seams match and joining evident with spout. Burnished surface but base underside wiped only. Black; much of rear chamber dark grey.
