Clapper

Wooden object three pieces with short handle. Such instruments have been found belonging to the Roman period at sites such as Karanis. While the short handle on this instrument suggests that it might have been used by a child, others have long handles. Terry Wilfong suggested these might have been used for domestic worship (British Museum Colloquim 12th July 2002). See H. Hickmann 'La cliquette. Un instrument de percussion egyptien de l'epoque copte' BSAC Vol 13 (Cairo 1951) pp 1-12. 11.5cm long.
