body: circular, open at back, bent from ?mahogany or oak and, like the neck, painted black; parchment head; metal band kept in place by 8 hooks bolted to substantial bars screwed to the inside and bent to pierce the side. Body: secured to the neck by a bar of oak passing right across the inside and through the body, where it is held in place on the outside by a nail; neck: oak, varnished brown, but painted like the body; it is jointed, cut in an S-section, with a hinge for folding forwards and a nut and bolt.
