body: squared off at the neck, with an arm either side 100 long, extended a further 125 in gilded curved flower tops, connected to the head with a bent gilded rod; standing on a base with 12 gilded wooden balls. Back: 2 pieces of sycamore; round the edge a broad golden line within 2 narrow lines; belly: one piece of pine, varnished brown; ribs: sycamore, tapered from bottom to top, lined with gold paint like the back; neck: painted black. Fingerboard: ebony, with 15 ivory frets and an ivory nut. Head: 2 plugged holes on rh side, one on the top (?for a missing head of Apollo). Length 830, body excluding arms 360, width 360, depth 120/70
