Italian polygonal virginal
case: cypress, sides 4 – 4.5 thick; keys in boxwood, with ?stained pear sharps; key arcades decorated with painted ornaments (similar to those of Antegnati, Brescia, 1537-44); bass keys show iron staples for pull-down to a pedal-board; jack-slots arranged pairwise in 25 sets of two; bridges in walnut beautifully moulded, with carved scrolls at each end; the space between the soundboard and above the keyboard is closed in with a ‘counter-soundboard’; soundboard: plank-sawn cypress wood, with rose of Gothic design in 3 thin layers of wood; baseboard in spruce; outer case in dyed poplar; compass: C/E to f3, 50 notes; width 1615, depth 390, height 193; keyboard: width 740, depth 116
