Salzburg zither.

Technical description: Body of rosewood veneer glued onto pine. Ebony fingerboard, wide enough for four strings. 26 free strings. All of the strings hitch at the bottom of the instrument, and go over a raised block into which a silver(?) bridge has been inlaid. 29 frets on the fingerboard (plus a fret 'zero'), frets 18 and 20 are only half width, and frets 23, 25, and 27 wide enough for only one string. There are four 'nut-pins' behind the zero fret, giving side draft for the fretted strings. Likewise, the bass strings have a nut with pins behind for side draft. All of the open strings are wound. Flat-head tuning-pins, with holes for the strings to pass through. The peghead ends in a scroll pattern, similar to that on Viennese guitars of the period. Sound-hole diameter 71. Soundbars can be seen on each side of the sound-hole, at an angle to the fingerboard, but parallel to each other. There are mother-of-pearl dot markers (decreasing in size) under the fourth string at frets 5, 9, and 12. Three circular buttons attached to the back to hold zither in place. The fingerboard is width 43 at the nut, and width 42.5 at the top. The total length of the fingerboard is 338, 331 from fret zero to the top.
