Flute. Nominal pitch: C.
Technical description: Black wood; 4 sections; silver keys; 5 ivory ferrules; metal-lined key-holes; oval embouchure-hole; large L2 and R2 finger-holes; overlapping low C / C♯ touches. Despite the word "patent" in the inscription, this instrument does not have any of the design features patented by Monzani in 1807 and 1812 (G.B. Patent Nos. 3074, 19th October 1807 and 3586, 16th July 1812) but see also repair history below. Keymount type: knob; metal wedge between low C and low C♯ shanks. Keyhead type: flat square, notched and chamfered. Repair History: Embouchure-hole enlarged; head probably not original (has different ferrules, no maker's mark); upper body may also not be original as it has no maker's mark, but its keywork and style match those of the lower sections; a metal block may have been added between low C and C♯ keyshanks on main foot keymount, probably to replace broken or worn wood.
