Clarinet. Nominal pitch: B♭.

Technical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keys. Six pieces: mouthpiece [not original], barrel, upper section, middle section for the fingers of the right hand, lower section with keys, bell. Mouthpiece is for E♭ clarinet, c1890. Barrel waisted, bored full-length to take long mouthpiece tenon. Speaker liner projects to the middle of the bore.Middle section with a wide parabolic ivory ferrule, no thumbrest. Lower section: Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a bell-shaped swelling. Pads of white leather; bascule key has an extra pad of calf-skin. Touch of shake key curves forward; spring rivet of A♮ key is noticeably prominent. Bell discontinuous, with ivory rim. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throatA♮. L2: T. L3: T. L4: E₃/B♮₄; zig-zag F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; trill key for throatA-B♮. R2: T. R3: T. R4: T; bevelled G♯₃/E♭₅. Keymount type: blocks; swelling. Keyhead type: square flat. Repair History: Upper section lined with brass for top c36mm, perhaps therefore a repaired tenon; middle section shows signs of having been shortened at lower end: there are tool marks for c2mm on tenon. Mouthpiece a replacement.
