Contralto saxhorn. Nominal pitch: 4-ft C etc.
Technical description: Brass. Ligature tuning at mouthpipe. Bell up wrap. Fitting for music card-holder. Shank for C and crook for B♭, single coil on the crook for B♭. The bore profile, with a marked expansion in the first half of the tube, could be considered to be that of a flugel horn. It is not known what name would have been used for this instrument by its maker or original users. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, bottom-sprung; alignment by key on piston. Repair History: Shank for C made by A.K.F. Wilson, 1983; the crook for B♭ is not a good fit, so probably not original.
