Clarinet. Nominal pitch: B♭.
Technical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keywork. Six pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, middle section for the fingers of the right hand, lower section with keys, bell. Mouthpiece has long tenon and is grooved with 12grooves for cord; stamped on the reed side; has a small shoulder to strengthen the socket. Barrel: bored full length to take the mouthpiece tenon. Upper section: each pair of blocks is pinned; speaker liner projects almost to the middle of the bore. Middle section: no thumbrest. Lower section: key-blocks are not pinned. Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a bell-shaped swelling. Bell discontinuous with ivory rim. L0: T; straight speaker. L1: T; straight lever for A. L2: T. L3: T. L4: straight bascule for E₃/B♮₄; zig-zag side key for F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T. R2: T. R3: T. R4: Oblique finger-hole; G♯₃/E♭₅. Keymount type: wire pivot in wood blocks, swelling. Keyhead type: flat square. Repair History: The upper section has been shortened by c10mm; new leaf spring may have been fitted to A₄ key; speaker and E♭ keys are mounted on large household pins.
