Violin.
Technical description: Soundboard of spruce; back sides, head and neck of sycamore; pegs, fingerboard, tailpiece, soundboard protector, endpin of ebony. Golden/orange varnish badly cracked. The varnish tends to be a little opaque and conceals the soundboard grain. Double purfling on soundboard and back - ebony/sycamore/ebony strips, separated by a distance of about 5. Some obvious bad workmanship in the cutting of the purfling troughs. Soundboard arch 15mm. The ribs are strongly figured and show some evidence of fracture occurring during the bending process. The 2 piece back has a medium depth figure, up towards the neck in the centre and down at the edges. Back arch 14mm. There is little evidence of usage wear. The head has been spliced to the neck. The neck is 132 long; fingerboard length 268, 23.2 wide at the nut and 41.8 wide at the bottom. Some slight damage on the soundboard from the feet of the bridge.
