Alto clarinet. Nominal pitch: E♭.
Technical description: Blackwood with silver plated german silver crook, keywork, ferrules and bell. Five pieces: mouthpiece, crook, upper section, lower section, upturned bell. Basic Oehler keywork with Csharp mechanism. Throat B♭ automatic operating from throat Akey: speaker key releases two key-heads. Only the upper one opens when used to overblow. Depressed with throat Akey, the upper key-head closes and the lower is opens in order to give an in-tune throat B♭. Three corresponding rings on LH section operating vents just below L1 and just beneath L2. Plate on R1 to avoid finger spacing. Vent hole on bottom of RH section lined with ebonite. Lower section tenon lined with german silver. Sling ring on back of upper section. 13keys, 2plates, 5rings, 5black rollers. L0: Plate; speaker. L1: T + ring + vent; throat A♮; throat A♭. L2: T + ring + vent. L3: T + ring; E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T + ring + vent; side F₄/ C₆; side E♭₄/B♭₅; side trill for throat A-B♮ and B♭-C. R2: Plate. R3: T + ring (forked B♭₃/F♮₅); cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: G♯₃/E♭₅; F₃/C₅. Keymount type: screwed in pillars. Keyhead type: modern. Repair History: The crook and the bell are replacements by Jonathan Steward.
