Still shawm, reconstruction

Technical description: Made in two sections the upper of stained boxwood the lower of stained cherry wood. The mechanism for the keys is largely obscured by two fontanelles also in cherry wood pierced with holes in circular patterns, they each have brass rings at each end. The keys are also made of brass. The instrument has a cylindrical bore giving a low range for the length - the bottom C is C₂ (two ledger lines below the bass clef). The unique fingering system is fully described by Charles Foster (2005). L0: T, L1: T, L2: T, L3: T, L4: T, R0:, R1: T, R2: T, R3: T, R4: Low F, Low C. Keymount type: blocks. Keyhead type: flat, cut from a sheet of brass.
