Technical description: Set of Highland bagpipes, full size, with chanter, bass and tenor drones. Ebony with bone and ivory ferrules and ivory tops. Plain button-mounted. Blowpipe and chanter are turned with decorative lines and rings; bulbs at centre joints.Chanter: original chanter. Seven finger-holes and one thumb-hole. Lapped tenon with bulb. Ivory sole and ferrule on stock.Blowpipe/mouthpiece: black plastic mouthpiece on original blowpipe. Lapped tenons. Ivory ferrule on stock. Ferrule has incised lines with black ink and is more decorative than the other ferrules, possibly a replacement.Bass Drone: three sections. Ivory top. Bone ferrules.Tenor drone1: two sections. Ivory top. Bone ferrules. Ferrule on centre section cracked and repaired with filler.Tenor drone2: two sections. Ivory top. Bone ferrule at stock; mammoth ivory ferrule at centre joint. Ivory ferrule is much newer that all other ferrules on the instrument.Bag: modern leather bag marked on the welt.Bag cover/cord: red tartan woollen cover with matching cord.Measurements: chanter length 365, conical bore beginning at 4.2 and ending at 21.4; bass drone length c670, bore at top 16.4; tenor drones length c330, bore at top 14.6 and 15.6. Repair History: The instrument had been in bad condition when acquired by the vendor. The mammoth ivory ferrule on tenor drone2 is a modern replacement by Iain Murray. New bag and bag cover; plastic replacement mouthpiece; replacement valve of white plastic.
