Musical box
Rectangular case, the front, back and sides painted and varnished to resemble rosewood, lid veneered with mahogany, inlaid with central cartouche of stylised flowers in pale and stained fruitwoods on dark stained ground, and bordered with three bands of light wood stringing. Interior of case ebonised. Cylinder and comb, with ratcheted lever-winding mechanism on left-hand side and stop/start levers on right. Geneva stopwork mechanism on barrel. Speed governed by worm-driven fly on right. Nickel-plated zither attachment, its control lever set into shield-shaped mount engraved with lyre, tambourine and pan pipes. Glass cover. Plays 10 tunes, described in French and German on paper tune-sheet attached to underside of lid, printed with "PVF Ste Croix Suisse".
