Guitar

The guitar’s rose is made of four ornate layers of paper set within a retaining ring of ivory and an outer ring of alternating ebony and ivory. The same pattern of ebony and ivory runs along the contours of the front, on the side of the neck and on the bridge. The ends of the bar sprout neat moustachios inlaid with flowerheads of ivory. A scrolling foliate design in ivory decorates the ebony face of the fingerboard. The back and sides are inlaid in a chevron pattern of tortoiseshell with inset quatrefoils of mother-of-pearl arranged in a diamond pattern in the centre of back and sides. A related pattern of tightly serried chevrons in ebony, ivory, and mother-of-pearl is inlaid into the back of the neck. The lightly angled head, has ten ebony pegs, inlaid with ebony and mother-of-pearl, inserted from behind, carrying five double courses.
