Pate

Slit drum (pate) made of a deeply hollowed out length of wood,accompanied by a single hardwood beater. This served as a signalling device for village meetings, for calling pigs or marking time for ceremonial singing and dancing. Collected by Rev. John Marriott between 1878 and 1904.
