Cornet

Cornet, silver plated, 1899 (c); presumed to have been used by the 2nd Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers during the Boer War; multiple loop pipe with brass mouthpiece; three valves with missing finger pieces; reinforced bell edge, upper surface impressed with maker’s name, Hawkes and Son, London; the coronet hangs on a rectangular wooden, ebonised mount which bears a silver plaque inscribed with presentation inscription.
