Drum

Used by Lamaist priests in Tantric ritual and taken by the Indian Civil Service; two hemispherical shells placed back to back, the join bound with white red and yellow cotton, formed by the craniums of two human skulls, reputedly those of a couple taken in adultery; heads are formed from taught skin glued around the edge; two hard, padded striking thongs hang from the central binding on either side. [PARTIALLY CLOSED]. Associated with Tibet (1903-1904).
