Clarinet in E-flat
This clarinet was used by the compiler of the manuscript for the Little Maplestead band (Mr. Simons, professor, 1850). It is a clarinet made of boxwood, in five sections (barrel, upper, middle and lower joints, and bell), with ivory ferrules and brass keywork. It has six flat, square-cover keys mounted in knobs and lower stock bulge, with flat springs attached to keys. The low keys have an adjustable screw mechanism and there is one vent hole in the bell. Also, the register-key tone-hole and the thumbhole are bushed with brass. The tenon-socket joints of the instrument are lined with brass sheet, and the brass ferrules are later replacements. Nominal pitch: E-flat.
