Sanza
This instrument was collected in the field by Mr. and Mrs. Patterson who were in Cameroon with the American Presbyterian Mission. It is a lamellaphone, also known as sanza, made of a wooden box carved out of a single piece of wood, having two round soundholes, on the bottom and back. There are nine lamellas made of iron alloy, each having a small wire ring or folded brass sheet jingles for rattling effect. The pressure bar and the bridge are also made of iron alloy, and the former is attached to the box with raffia. The backrest is made of wood and has a thick strip of leather.
