Nominal pitch: C. English/Renaissance fingering. Technical description: [boxwood]; 2|sections (head and body); 7|finger-holes plus small thumb-hole; finger-holes increase in size from L1 through to R3 (assuming left hand uppermost), with R4 similar in size to L3; broad, wide windway; 2|brass ferrules; metal tuning-slide; bore has a pronounced flare outwards from R1 finger-hole to foot. Usable pitch: sounding A₄ c|454|Hz. Performance characteristics: range C₄|-|G₅ (sounding C₅|-|G₆); plays with small, rather muffled sound in present condition; built in imitation of a Renaissance recorder, the instrument plays with mostly English fingerings, but some notes respond better with Renaissance fingerings (e.g. upper D with all holes open).
