Upright pianoforte

An upright cottage marqueterie piano veneered in rosewood and tulipwood which was 'winner of first prize, Paris Exn. 1885' according to the accession register. The piano is French in style with octagonal columns to the front, a scalloped outer edge and intricate scrolling marquetry inlaid panels with a trellis pattern along the lid and frieze. There is a floral spray along the columns to either side. Above this there is a three quarter length bust, classical in style, with scrolling detail. There is a three panelled frieze above the lid with two metal candle sticks. The piano has an ornate handle to either side to aid in manoeuvring it but it does not appear to have castors.
