Oboe

This instrument is associated with Kneller Hall. It is an oboe made of cocus wood in three sections (top and middle body joints, and bell), with nickel-silver ferrules and keywork. It has twenty-three cylinder-cup open keys (four ring keys) mounted on posts with rods, with flat and needles springs attached to keys or posts. There is a double-touch key for the low B and low B-flat. Conical bore. The reed receiver is lined with metal. The socket joints are lined in metal, and the tenons have metal tips, with cork wrapping. There is a nickel-silver thumbrest screwed onto body. Nominal pitch: C.
