Sitar

The sitar is a fretted long-necked lute made with gourd resonators ("tumba"). This is a smaller version of the five-string instrument, with a single hemispherical tumba, and a one-piece neck and pegbox made of wood (usually tun or teak wood), covered with a wooden top and fretboard respectively. The instrument has twelve adjustable flat brass frets tied with gut string. There are five wooden pegs with a two-leaf-clover shape, and five brass wire strings that run through the first bone nut/positioner, over the second bone nut and bone jawari bridge, and are attached to a duck-head-shaped bone button at the tailpiece. The top is has a horn binding.
