Electric bass guitar

This is a semi-acoustic, Senator model, electric bass guitar made in the shape of the then popular archtop electric guitars, in which the bodies were hollow and the top and back slightly arched. The top would also have f-shaped holes in violin style. The body is made of maple with a Venetian round cutaway shape, and has Höfner's "sunburst brunette" finish. The fretboard is made of rosewood and has 22 nickel-silver frets, and mother-of-pearl dots inlay (double dotted at 12th/13th fret space). The nut is of laminated plywood in black-white-black pattern. The maple neck has an adjustable truss-rod with coverplate on headstock. The headstock is of a traditional Höfner shape, with laminated overlay black plate, and has four single tuners mounted on the back (2+2), with mother-of-pearl buttons and metal ferrules around the barrels. There are four modern, ball-end strings. The tailpiece is also a traditional, all-metal, Höfner long trapeze model, with white plastic button. The bridge is an Höfner fretted model (type 72-20) made of ebonised wood with four adjustable nickel-silver saddles for each string, and two vertical adjustable screws. The electrical hardware consists of a blade model single coil pickup (Höfner type 512B), and two rotary controls for volume and tone, with white plastic buttons. The instrument also has a tortoise-shell pickguard (probably plastic-based). This particular example is one of those instruments that were distributed by the Selmer Company in London.
