Fife in B-flat
This is a side-blown flute with conical bore, commonly called fife in the military jargon, made of rosewood in two sections (head and body) and nickel-silver ferrules and keywork. The head joint was painted in black (and there is a possibility that it is not original to this body). It has four modern-style-cup keys, mounted in posts with rods, with flat springs attached to keys. It has an oval embouchure hole, and larger second, third, fourth and fifth fingerholes. Nominal pitch: B-flat.
