Lute

The shell is made from 13 "shaded" ribs made from yew (heart and sapwood) joined by 1mm thick ebony shavings. The shell is finished with a red amber-coloured oil varnish. The front is made from two pieces of matching spruce with an ebony edging, a decorated heart inlay, and a pierced and carved rose similar to the instrument's original. The bridge is made of plumwood with an ebony capping. The neck and pegbox are veneered with ebony and inlaid with 20 strips made from light holly. The pegbox holds 17 ebony pegs made from rosewood. The lute is based on an instrument by Magno Dieffopruchar made in 1609, now housed in the Museo Bardini (No.144) in Florence.
