Bow

Imzad, spike fiddle. The instrument has a hemispherical half gourd resonator, bisected by a curved stick forming the neck and the distal spike. The skin sound-table is laced to the gourd with leather thongs extending from the skin. The skin has two sound holes, either side of the string. Geometrical patterns have been painted onto the skin with green and red dye (possibly the same colouring medium as for the bow). The bridge is missing. The string is of black horsehair, tied with leather thongs to the end of the neck and to the end of spike. The stick bow is out-curved and D-shaped, with black horsehair tied with leather thongs onto the notched ends. It is decorated with five coloured bands painted at about 5 cm intervals. Each band is a colour sequence of red-green-red.
