Broadwood square piano. 1785. Rectangular mahogany frame, with ebony and satinwood stringing around lid, sides, front. On matching stand with 4 tapered legs and side stretchers, on brass casters. Double hinged lid with integral music stand. 2 brass catches at sides and one at front. Carved fretted sounding board. Inscribed on sounding board 'Johannes Broadwood, London fecit 1785 patent. Great Pulteney Street, Golden Square'. Label on underside 'FS89'. Typed label on underside 'John Matthews Esq, Y Staircase, Bodley's Buildings, Kings College, Cambridge'.
