Grand pianoforte

Original description: Three quarter size mahogany grand piano with quarter sawn bookmatched burr walnut veneer NOTE Description by Ben Marks 2018: A straight strung, iron-framed grand piano by Collard and Collard, c1872, with a case veneered in highly figured ‘Hungarian’ ash. Compass AAA - a''''. Two pedals for una corda and sustain. Dampers from AAA - c''' 96832 is handwritten in ink on the spine edge of the soundboard, now obscured by dust. The action frame is stamped C. Cary / 11046, the latter number also appearing on the key end blocks. 678 is stamped at the treble end of the action frame. 880 and T. PAGE are stamped on the bottom of the keywell, where 11048 is also written in pencil. (See attached Clayson and Garrett notes for full details of such inscriptions and a technical description of the instrument). The piano is presently tuned once a year at pitch a'=440Hz. It receives light, casual use by members of the visiting public when the house is open.
