Hurdy-gurdy
Hurdy-Gurdy or Vielle a Roue by J. Colson, c.1840. Stamped 'Colson A Mirecourt'. Guitar shaped body, corners inlaid with ebony and ivory. Two playing strings, Head carved to represent a bearded ancient. Colson was the master of Thouvenel (see MC.67). 'Two chanterelles four drones and twenty four keys. Bought from S. Hagger, 12 St Stephens Lane, Ipswich, 6th October 1938, Old wheel violin £5' (M. Jessup).
