Harmonica

Harmonica, mouth organ, mouth blown free reed instrument. Rectangular wooden body painted yellow. 29 square mouth holes along one of the longer side faces. Metal reed plates cover the top and bottom faces, each with 14 parallel free reeds corresponding to the positions of the mouth holes. The instrument originally had reed covers on top and bottom, but the bottom cover is missing. The top cover is a sheet of metal the width of the mouth hole array. Two tabs with round ends extend from each side and are bent down to the level of the reed plate, each one secured by a single pin. Stamped inscriptions on the reed cover include two trade medals at each end from Chicago and 'Jamaika'. At the centre: 'C.H. MEINEL, SAXONY'.
