Notched flutes; sujoya

Sujoya, notched flute, made from a single piece of wood. The main body forms a vertical shaft, slightly elliptical in cross-section and flaring at the distal end. Both sides of the wide head are chamfered to form a straight edge along the top, with a round mouth hole at the centre. Pairs of lateral and oblique lines are incised on the surface. Each side of the body has two raised, tapered sections for two fingerholes. The distal end of the instrument is closed, but there are two further holes, which do not meet the central chamber but pass from the two sides to the base, possibly for the attachment of a carrying strap.
