Sopila, shawm, of boxwood. The distal section of the instrument unscrews, and the screw bell is missing. There are six fingerholes of varying sizes. The thumb hole and one vent hole are plugged with wax. The name for the shawm recorded by Anthony Baines in his catalogue of the Boosey & Hawkes collection (1972) is 'sopel'.
