Clarinet
Clarinet. Nominal pitch: C. Beech with african blackwood (grenadilla) or ebony mouthpiece, brass keys and ivory ferrules. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, left hand joint, integral right hand/lower joint, bell. Six keys, block mounted with square flat flaps and leather pads. String lapped tenons. Mouthpiece retains a reed, which is tied in position. A banner-shaped emblem is stamped onto the barrel, upper joint, lower joint and bell. These appear to have originally contained the inscription: G.C. PAYNE/LONDON; but none remains fully legible.
