Fiddle; gadulka
One gadulka fiddle purchased with bow (Horniman Museum number 2012.159.2) from a market stall in Arbanassi, Bulgaria on the 8th June 1994. The piriform body, neck and head carved from a single piece of wood. Three pegs pass through the circular peg-box from the back, with spliced shafts for wire strings. The peg-box has carved decoration.The wooden table has two U-shaped soundholes. The bridge is supported by a wooden post wedged under the rectangular tailpiece.
