Mi-gyaung; box zither
Mí-gyàng or crocodile zither. A three-stringed box zither. The body is of reddish-brown wood in the form of a crocodile with a large green oval stone set into the forehead. On the underside is rectangular soundhole extending almost from one end to the other. There are three lateral pegs with bud-shaped ivory heads set into the tail of the crocodile which forms the peg-box. A tall ivory nut is set into the table for two of the strings, just below the peg-box. A small wooden nut for the third strings is fixed further down the soundboard. There is a metal stringholder below the neck of the crocodile. Three strings are present; various fittings are missing from the table.
