Conch shell trumpet

?ankh, end-blown conch trumpet. Small white shell of the species Turbinella pyrum with dextral spiral. The tip has been removed and a cement applied to the rim to form a mouthpiece. A stand supports the shell. This is of brass and has three curved legs with flat round feet. The stand (museum number 26.287ii) has ornamental bars extending from the front and back and a heart-shaped hole where the shell is supported. Unlike the shell itself, the stand is symmetrical around a longitudinal axis.
