Cobza; lute

Cobz?, carvel-built lute. The body is pear shaped with a short neck. The back is curved, made from ribs of maple wood. The table is of fir with a rose comprising small central soundhole surrounded by two concentric circles of eight slots. Above the rose is a triangular soundhole. The short neck terminates in a pegbox, angled backwards with eight side-entrant oak pegs. The eight strings arranged in four double courses pass over a wooden nut at the neck; the strings splay out in a fan shape and are secured to a large wide tension bridge beneath the soundholes.
