Frame drum; rnga

Rnga, double membrane frame drum. The shell is formed of a cylinder of wood with convex walls, and is bisected by a wooden handle that extends from one side. The membranes are glued to the shell. The shell and the membrane are stained green and decorated with geometric designs in red. The handle is carved with a square and triangular shapes along its length, and it ends in a point emerging from a dragon's mouth. The stick has a wooden handle (Horniman Museum number M11.6.53/2a), with a long metal stem, which has an almost semi-circular curve towards the top, and a round padded head.
