Bagpipe; gajde

A Macedonian gajde (bagpipe). The chanter, single drone and blowpipe are all of boxwood, with horn stocks and ferrules. The chanter has seven finger holes, the first of which is a small 'flea hole' with a quill inserted, and a vent hole near the distal end to the player's right. Below the fifth hole, the chanter is painted black and at the distal end is angled forwards to form a bell terminating in two points. The compass of the chanter is G4 to A5,B5, C6-sharp (g' to a'', b'', c" sharp). The drone sounds the note D3 (d). It is in three joints, with turned lateral grooves along its length and three ferrules, one at the rim. Both sounding pipes have single reeds of cane mounted inside the bag.
